Monoprinting now

Proofing the etched plate all completed, now to make a variable edition monotyping under the key plate. The plate looks very sombre when printed in black, so today I tried burnt sienna – much more successful and tomorrow I’ll try a blue. Monoprinting is tricky with the registration but it really lifts the plate with high key colours.

Interestingly, as we worked through the day, each print trying to improve on the last, when hung together, all of us tended to prefer the earlier proofs and in fact when hung in combination, the look of each changes. I think this one was my favourite –

Tommorow – my last day at Flatbed, we’ll print the key plate in blue but aim to recapture the brightness of the orange against the green.
