Term two of the Conversation Station Monday printmaking sessions started today with some new printmakers and some familiar faces. Hot off the press this morning were two monoprints by an excellent artist who hides her talent. Drawing seems to come so easily to her.
This work is made by coating a metal plate with a thin layer of black ink. Paper is laid gently on top and then the drawing is made onto the paper which picks up ink from the plate below. The negative image on the right is then made by printing the plate itself through a press to reveal the marks where the ink has been lifted by the first part of the process. Magic !
