Printing Day One

Day one of printing today – and ably assisted by Pecos : intern at Flatbed. Using styrene as the vehicle to hold the ink, I’m able to cut it up with a knife into shapes which are then inked and printed on a large electric press. I see it as an intaglio press however Tracy […]

Westlake Hills

Such an enjoyable workshop with mostly men with early memory loss at Westlake Hills yesterday. It was third time successful after two sessions with teething troubles on Tuesday and Wednesday. Although Theresa from Mobile Art has been marvellous, it’s hard to work with unfamiliar equipment, materials and places. However, I think now we’ve cracked it. […]

Flying on Sunday

Here are some more new prints. I’ve made them in preparation for my time at Flatbed Press http://www.flatbedpress.com/  I’ll be there in Austin Texas, co publishing a new edition of colour etchings in the month ahead. I’m not sure if it’s a good idea to pre-empt the experience with work made in the UK. I’m […]

Two new monoprints

Two new monoprints – 90cm x 64cm and both bleed prints exploring ideas about a confused interior mind. New work and Texas

I’ve been invited to work at Flatbed Press in Austin, Texas for a month in June. http://www.flatbedpress.com/ Incredible as this sounds – it’s true and is a connection that has grown out of a visit to Austin in 2013  when I met with students and staff at the University of Texas faculty of arts and […]

New work in response to art making alongside dementia patients

At last today a resumption of my work in response to the printmaking sessions run at Franklyn Hospital over 12 months ago. I hope to return to Franklyn soon as I find the art making alongside dementia sufferers so rewarding – and so beneficial for the participants themselves.  I want to find a way to […]

At last the work we made in an Arts Council funded residency in 2013 returns to Franklyn House : An exhibition of paintings and prints made by patients who were in Franklyn Hospital with dementia and mental illness. Here is a catalogue essay written by Gill Nicol to give a little background to the exhibition […]

Installation of finished work

Finally, after a long blog absence, the finished work for Eliot and Fielding wards at Taunton’s Musgrove Park Hospital. This coincides with an exhibition of the ‘Forget Everything’ prints which come from Franklyn Hospital – see earlier posts. The new work for the hospital is on the theme of Butterflies and Moths making an oblique […]

Started on the background images for the framed work at Musgrove Park…looks a bit rough but the essence in this is layers – these caterpillar and butterfly drawings will make a coloured backdrop in the frames over which will lie all sorts of references and images of moths and butterflies. To be continued…
